Background

This information is meant to inform Bin-Sense Live customers about current and future 3G cellular network discontinuation scenarios that may affect the cellular communication of Bin-Sense Live Master units. Outlined below are steps that you might need to consider with your local Bin-Sense dealer to ensure your bins can continue to provide uninterrupted grain monitoring service.

In several regions around the world, mobile carriers have begun decommissioning their 3G networks. In Canada, Rogers and Bell have already started this 3G decommissioning work which have impacted 3G devices that rely on this infrastructure. As we approach March 2027, the majority of the remaining 3G networks provided by Telus, SaskTel, and other mobile network operators in Canada are set to follow suit with 3G network decommissioning.

Customer Considerations

If your Bin-Sense Live Master unit is a 3G-communicating device, please contact your dealer to create an action plan. Here are some scenarios for customers to consider:

Option 1: Bin-Sense Master Unit Modem Replacement (as applicable)

  • For customers whose device was manufactured between 2019 and 2022, your device would contain a modem that can be retrofitted with a new 4G/LTE modem. Please contact your Bin-Sense dealer to perform and schedule any modem replacement service work.

Option 2: Bin-Sense Master Unit Replacement

  • For Bin-Sense customers whose devices are manufactured/installed prior to 2019, these units will need to be replaced rather than performing a modem replacement. Your unit may qualify for eligible rebate programs. Please inquire with your dealer.

Customer Action

Bin-Sense dealers have been informed about this impact and may reach out with details on how to update your device.

If you have not heard from your local Bin-Sense dealer, please contact them with any questions you might have and to inquire about pricing information for a modem replacement or a Bin-Sense Master unit replacement. It will be important to do this work during the 2026 growing season to ensure your device will continue to connect to supported network technology.
